From Miriama Today Rea wrote stories about Tuahine Hireke's ulcer under her tongue... Hapene -
One day Tuahine Hireke felt an ulcer. She tried her hardest to get it off. First she used toothpaste. "It burns, It burns" she yelled. Then she tired some tweezers. But it just grew bigger and bigger like a bean stalk. There was only one thing left to do (Tuahine Hireke's worst fear) needle the ulcer....POP! Ngaru - Tuahine Hireke has a massive ulcer but instead of popping it she likes to dress it up. She calls her ulcer Lucy and liked to pretend that it's her own kid. The most hardest thing about pretending an ulcer is a child, is when it comes to dressing it's round body up with clothes. One day Lucy the ulcer started inviting friends to Tuahine Hireke's tongue. Everyone thought Tuahine Hireke would finally be sick of Lucy the ulcer but they couldn't be more wrong. Evania - One day Tuahine Hireke had an ulcer under her tongue she tired to pop it but it didn't work. I told her to get some toothpaste, cotton bud, lighter and some white fluff. I then cut the tooth paste in half with scissors and used the lighter to burn one half. I used the burnt toothpaste to make a hole in the middle. I put a cotton bud in the middle and burnt both sides of the cotton bud. I then told her to poured water on both sides of the cotton bud, I then sneakily popped her ulcer with a needle. POP! She didn't even notice. Jakaia - One day my teacher Tuahine Hireke had an ulcer. She tried to use her vacuum cleaner to suck it off but her tongue got stuck. She called for help. But there was no replied, hopefully someone will find her soon. On thursday of week 8 the year threes will be soaking up the sun and playing in the surf at beach Ed.
In week 7 the Yr 5's will be learning how to be safe in the waves. Rea has been focusing this term on letter writing.
We have finished publishing our letters and they are ready to be posted to our penpals in Belgium. What was the bird we heard outside our room today?..... See if you can find it on here http://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-animals/birds/bird-songs-and-calls/
By Nikau Hello my name is Nikau Pouaka Grego and I am in room 2. I have just recently got back from the USA because I was representing New Zealand in Baseball.
On the 19th of July 2015 I left from Auckland airport with the whole New Zealand baseball team to go to Honolulu, which is where I had my lay over before heading to New York to the JFK airport. Before we went through customs we did our Baseball haka led by a kid in my team called Huriwaka. So once we got through customs we went to the departure lounge and sat together as a team and watched heaps of youtube. When we got on the plane we all went to sleep so quickly. The flight was 8.5 hours. Once we got to Honalulu we had a four hour lay over so we got our bags and checked in for our next flight. We went through customs again we all went to get some lunch then we had a 1.5 hours to ourselves. We all went to buy a ice-cream, it was delicious. I got a cookies and cream one with cookies chocolate chips Nutella and strawberries it was delicious. Once we got on our plane to New York it was a 9 hour flight but I slept for 3 hours. When we got to JFK airport we quickly got off the plane and got our luggage before we got on our bus to Baltimore. On our way to Baltimore we saw the New York Mets stadium, it is called city field . Then we saw the Brooklyn bridge and Met life stadium which is the Ice Hockey Stadium. One we got to Baltimore we had to go to our Dormitory, we were four days early...... Kia ora Whānau ,

As Tuahine Hireke has been plopping knowledge into our heads we are still learning something new every day. we hope everyone has a great holiday thankyou Tuahine Hireke for this term. :) In Rea we had the University of Canterbury come in to test the St Albans creek. We tested to see if it was polluted or healthy. We have leant that a healthy stream has oxygen in it, a ph level of 7.5 , has plants, fish and insects. We found out that at St Albans Creek had no plants around it. We tested the creek with a ph meter reader it came out as 7.9 which means that it is polluted. We used an oxygen meter reader to test how much O2 is in the water (fish use this to breath). The results showed that there was an oxygen level of 8 which is very low. We then used a net to try collect insects and snails. All we found were snails which is not a good sine because snails live in polluted streams.
We are now learning to write scientific reports. Ngā mihi, Te Ao Mārama |
