In Rea we had the University of Canterbury come in to test the St Albans creek. We tested to see if it was polluted or healthy. We have leant that a healthy stream has oxygen in it, a ph level of 7.5 , has plants, fish and insects. We found out that at St Albans Creek had no plants around it. We tested the creek with a ph meter reader it came out as 7.9 which means that it is polluted. We used an oxygen meter reader to test how much O2 is in the water (fish use this to breath). The results showed that there was an oxygen level of 8 which is very low. We then used a net to try collect insects and snails. All we found were snails which is not a good sine because snails live in polluted streams.
